Kin

I’m going to get straight to the point. Kin deserves an immediate and excitable blog post as it is just too good not to share. Located on Foley Street, halfway between Oxford Circus and Regents Park, it has carved itself a little calm space providing amazing food, great coffee and (unbelievably) a retreat from the hectic streets outside. Small and compact inside, they've done well to create a light environment that provides an array of seating and doesn't feel cramped or oppressive. They also have a nice outside seating area at the front of the cafe which must be popular on days when the sun is shining.

Everything about Kin screams fresh, healthy and tasty. As soon as you walk in the door you are hit with an array of beautiful and colourful salads, quiche and vegan burgers which make you want to immediately order one of everything. Don't be alarmed, but the food you will find here is vegetarian (or vegan). Yes, there is life beyond meat and it’s delicious.

You can opt to eat in or take away, although if you've popped in from the office I think you should really sit down and relax for a bit. The food is too good to just take back to your desk and shovel into your belly while staring at your computer screen (of course if you want to bring your screen and stare at it inside Kin, who am I to stop you). I ordered the vegan quiche, packed full of aubergine, chickpea, carrot and and array of plentiful salad. It was a beautiful mix of ingredients and easily the best lunch I’ve had in a long time. The coffee was equally good and it being my first one of the day I could have ordered about three more. To be truthful, it had been something of a tough week so finding Kin felt like a lovely treat to start to my weekend.

Their goal is to create ‘fresh and healthy food in a comfortable and friendly environment’ and for once you can’t argue with the trade description. The have managed to do exactly what they have set out to and we all get to benefit from their efforts. The only negative is that I don’t live on Foley Street, but you can’t have everything. When I am in the area though, this is definitely going to be my go to spot for some coffee and a pick me up.
